10-men Pune Police coast to victory in KP Jadhav football

Pull off 2-0 win over Rupali FC; VOBA beat Deccan B in penalty shoot-out.

A ten-men Pune City Police pulled off a 2-0 victory over Rupali FC in a super division clash of the 18th VOBA Major KP Jadhav football championship at the St Vincent’s Ground.

Pune City Police started strongly with regular forays into Rupali FC’s penalty box. Their attacking endeavour paid off as Uday Badkar slotted in a penalty in the 17th minute. Badkar then added another in the 49th minute but not before Xavier Bernard of Pune City Police was shown a red card. However,Pune City Police seemed to be unfazed by the dismissal as they held on for the win.

In the second match of the day,VOBA earned a 6-4 win in the penalty shoot-out against Deccan B after both teams were locked at two goals apiece at full-time whistle.

Yash Shah opened the scoring for Deccan B in the 11th minute,but Akshay Kadu’s accurate strike in the 49th minute restored parity for VOBA. Nishith Hegde then added another for Deccan,but a last gasp toe-poke from Naushad Bodhanwala in the 70th minute ensured the game would be decided through a penalty shoot-out.

In the ensuing shoot-out,Akshay Kadu,Bodhanwala,Akshay Kamble and Ruben Lobo all scored for VOBA. Sanket Kadulkar and Narendra Mane were on target for Deccan,but Shah and Pranav Deshpande missed their spot-kicks giving VOBA victory.

In the second and third division matches played at the Range Hills ground in Khadki,Strikers progressed in the tournament courtesy a walk-over against Ashoka FC. Commandos FC scored a 2-1 win over Agha Khan Sports Cub.

Goals from Daniel Chetiar and Agnel Pillay helped Commandos to victory while Aziz Sangliwalla scored a consolation goal for Agha Khan Sports Club.

Bishops Colts stormed to a 4-1 win over Nav Maharashtra FC as Yaimi Wasah scored a hat-trick for Bishops Colts.

Keegan Bast scored a goal while Pankaj Bhosale managed to get his name on the scoresheet for Nav Maharashtra FC. Shivajians B recorded a 2-0 victory over Krantiveer as Swapnil Kadam turned in a perfect Jerson Solomon pass and Basio Fernandes tapped in a Pervez Desai centre to help Shivajians B advance.
