10 women passengers robbed on Pune-Sholapur Express

In a shocking incident that left a few passengers injured,the Pune-Sholapur Express was looted on the outskirts of Daund after it left the city on Sunday night. Police said around 8-10 robbers entered the train after it passed the Daund junction near Dhawlus village.

The robbers looted 10 women passengers and decamped with their gold ornaments worth Rs 3 lakh around 8.30 pm. The incident happened under the Sholapur division of the Central Railway.

“Around 10 dacoits entered the general compartment armed with weapons. They asked women passengers to take off their ornaments. Those who resisted were severely beaten up and stabbed,” said an eye-witness. The dacoits got off the train just as it started out for Kurduwadi Station.

A complaint was lodged by Mahadevi Vitkar (22),a resident of Vardi village in Sholapur,at the Kurduwadi Police Station. The injured are undergoing treatment at a hospital in the area.
