The city witnessed sudden heavy downpour on Monday with most parts of the city experiencing waterlogging and power cuts.
The meteorological department recorded 10.3 mm rainfall
in three hours between 5.30 pm and 8.30 pm.
The minimum temperature also went up to 19.2 degrees Celsius. The Met department has forecast that the minimum temperature will be nearly 6-8 degrees above normal while the city is likely to receive more showers in the week ahead. The entire state has witnessed thundershowers with rain recorded in Mumbai and Aurangabad on Sunday.
“Last week,cyclonic storm Helen crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast and as the intensity decreases,there is a trough which extends from south Tamil Nadu to South Madhya Maharashtra that sees winds moving in a south-easterly direction from the Bay of Bengal. Along with this,it brings in moisture incursion and this is causing rain and thundershowers in most of the state,” said Deputy Director General,IMD,Medha Khole. According to her,this season sees plenty of cyclonic activity and it is normal to see rain or thundershower due to this.
She said that another cyclonic storm,Lehar from the Bay of Bengal,was expected to cross Andhra Pradesh on November
28 and this would see the minimum temperatures rise for the entire week.
The entire state has seen minimum temperatures rise with Ahmednagar,Kolhapur,Nashik and Sangli recording above 20 degrees Celsius. The all-India weather bulletin has stated that Lehar over Andaman sea moved northwestwards and intensified into a severe cyclonic storm,which crossed Andaman and Nicobar Islands close to Port Blair. According to the department,the system would gradually intensify further into a very severe cyclonic storm and move west-northwestwards and cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam near Kakinada.
