1 dead, 3 injured as temporary seating collapses at bullock cart race event in Pune district

One person died and three were left injured after a temporary seating arrangement constructed for a bullock cart race event at Wadki near Pune collapsed following heavy showers Sunday.

The police have identified the deceased as Balasaheb Kashinath Koli, 46, a resident of Ninam Padali village in Satara district.

Two of the injured, Shubham Vijay Lokhande, 24, and Mayur Prasad Lokhande, 25, are farmers in Bhor taluka under Pune district. Whereas, the third person who received injuries has been identified as Vikas Valmik Dhamale, 24, of Rahuri in Ahmednagar district.

According to the police, the soil under the temporary seating structure became loose following heavy showers. They added that some members of the audience, including the deceased, took shelter under the wooden structure to protect themselves from the rain. But the structure collapsed on them.

After receiving information about the mishap, a team from the Loni Kalbhor police station under the Pune city police rushed to the spot. Cops took the four victims to a hospital for treatment.

Senior police inspector Dattatraya Chavan said Balasaheb Koli succumbed to his injuries during treatment. He added that the condition of the other three injured people was stable.

A case of accidental death has been lodged at the Loni Kalbhor police station.
