Patna caste segregation video: The Patna district administration has ordered an inquiry into allegations of caste-based discrimination at a government school in Alawalpur village.

A video circulating on social media shows students alleging they were made to sit separately, prevented from mingling with “upper-caste” students and, at times, denied food.

“They ask the other students, ‘Why do you sit with them?’. They seat us separately,” one student claims in the video, adding that upper-caste students are moved if found seated next to “lower-caste students”.

Other complaints include administrative irregularities such as poor teacher attendance, irregular classes, low-quality food, and allegations of students being made to do manual labour.

A teacher, however, denied the allegations, claiming that the students had been “misguided”. “No discrimination has ever happened with our children. My school has been turned into a political arena by some people,” this teacher claimed.

When contacted, Patna District Magistrate Thiyagarajan S M told The Indian Express that an inquiry has been ordered. “The DEO (district education officer) has been directed to inquire and submit a report on the incident.”

The DEO did not respond to queries on the matter.
