Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav and his wife Rachel aka Rajshree Yadav were blessed with a baby daughter at a Delhi hospital on Monday.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader shared the news on social media. Tejashwi, who appeared before the CBI in connection with the IRCTC case, had earlier got his questioning deferred because his wife was in an advanced state of pregnancy.

Tejashwi’s sister Rohini Acharya tweeted a poetic message to express her happiness and congratulate her brother and sister-in-law. Other family members also congratulated the new parents.

Among politicians, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was one of the first to congratulate Tejashwi. Kejriwal tweeted: “Pavitra navratra ke dinon mein matarani ke is aashirwad ke liye aapko aur aapke parivar to bahut-bahut badhai (Congratulations to you and your family for this blessing of goddess during the days of Navratra..”

Tejashwi married his long-time friend Rachel, a Christian, in December 2021. He would often talk about his inter-faith marriage in the context of his party reaching out to “people of all communities”.

Rachel moved to Delhi a few months ago after she became pregnant. Former Bihar chief ministers Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi are already in Delhi.
