Case filed against three education department officials after death of a Muzaffarpur students because of cold wave

A Muzaffarpur lawyer lawyer has filed a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder case in Muzaffarpur court against Bihar education department additional chief secretary KK Pathak, education department joint secretary Kanhaiya Prasad Srivastava and Muzaffarpur district education officer Ajay Kumar Singh for death of a school student because of cold wave following education department ACS overruling DMs’ decision to close down schools.

Muzaffarpur Bar Association functionary and advocate Sushil Kumar Singh said: “Mohammed Qurban, a high school student at Ragho Majhauli school under Bochaha in the district died because he had to attend classes despite school remaining open in cold waves.

Education department had overruled DMs’ prerogative of closing schools because of cold waves recently. We hold three education department officials accountable for the student’s death. These officials hardly know that mostly children of poor people study in such schools and are often not properly dtrssed”.

Singh added Chief Judicial Magistrate court had admitted the case, due to be heard on 3 February.
