Youth beaten to death by family of girl he‘harassed’,3 held

Three persons,including a woman,were arrested by the V B Nagar Police in Kurla (West) on Wednesday for allegedly beating a 22-year-old man to death on Sunday. The deceased,Khurshid Shaikh,was allegedly thrashed by the family of a minor girl after he was accused of harassing her.

Police identified the arrested as Naziruddin Shaikh (32),the girl’s father,her mother Shameem Bano Shaikh (27) and their family friend Jainuddin Shaikh (32). The police are on the lookout for two persons who are absconding.

The incident took place at an apartment in PMGP Colony located at Bharatiya Nagar in Kurla (West) at 4.30 pm on Sunday,where the arrested persons live.

“Khurshid was accused of harassing a minor girl and three persons,including her parents and two others who are absconding,took him to the apartment. They then assaulted him with belts. They also kicked him and smashed his head against the wall. Khurshid began bleeding profusely and was led out by the accused persons,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Dhananjay Kulkarni.

Khurshid was taken to a hospital,but succumbed to injuries later. The police had registered an accidental death report (ADR) in the case. Murder charges were slapped on the accused after Khurshid’s friend approached the police and registered a complaint saying they had assaulted Khurshid.

“We were probing the circumstances that led to the incident when Khurshid’s friend approached us. We then registered a case against them on Wednesday evening and arrested the three the same night,” said Kulkarni.
