Firefighters try to douse the blaze in a showroom in Worli. (Source: ANI)
A firefighter was injured while extinguishing a level one fire that broke out inside a showroom in Worli on Friday. No other injuries have been reported in the blaze, which was doused nearly two hours later.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the incident was reported at 4.46 am at the Marshal showroom situated in Bharat Bazar at Gandhi Nagar along the Dr E Moses Road in Worli. Declared level 1 at 4.55 am, the blaze spread through the ground floor and the mezzanine floor of the one-storey godown.
Officials said the fire remained confined to electric wiring, installation, stock of papers, bundles, carton and gift boxes, make up accessories, clothes, computers, iron racks, wooden doors, AC roof as well as a TVS bike situated on the mezzanine floor. Some other material stored in an area spanning nearly 900 square feet of the loft and the ground floor area were also charred in the incident.
The fire was extinguished by 7.12 am.
However, during the course of firefighting, a firefighter sustained minor injuries to her right hand. The injured brigade person has been identified as Ajindra Ganpat Sawant. Ganpat was taken to Nair hospital.
