(Express Photo by Pradip Das) The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Monday, which is observed as World Environment Day, started a dedicated hotline to address citizens’ complaints related to waste management in the city.
Civic body officials said the hotline, 8169681697, will be available through BMC’s dedicated chatbot and citizens can lodge their complaints by attaching photos and locations of the spot from where they want to get the waste removed.
Officials said after the complaint is registered, the issue along with a complaint ID will be forwarded to the local ward office. The complainant will also be given an ID, they added. Once the garbage has been removed from that particular spot, photos and videos of the location will be shared with the complainant by the BMC team.
“This chatbot will help us in keeping the city clean and, therefore, Mumbaikars have been asked to take advantage of it. This number will be available throughout the year and will be useful to us to identify some of the waste-prone zones of Mumbai,” said BMC.
On Monday, the civic body also provided logistical support for a mega cleanup drive inside the Aarey forest, where citizens and various NGOs come to clean the area annually to observe World Environment Day. BMC has deployed 135 of its staff, two JCBs, six dumpers, and two dry waste tempos for the drive.
