Despite the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) asking Everest Spices to stop manufacturing activities at its old and new units in Vikhroli,a report by the board states that packing and packaging activities at the new unit were still on. A team of MPCB officials visited the companys units Wednesday along with company representative Nilesh Chaudhari and complainant Sudhir Singh.
The report stated that manual filling of spices was going on at the old plant. The MPCB in its report said the activity should be carried out in confined space.
The MPCB said the second floor of the new unit needs proper amenities to minimise the smell and asked the unit to submit preventive measures in this regard.
The company gave verbal assurance that that the suggested upgrades needed three to four months. Packing and packaging work in the old plant and new plants observed today can be seen as a violation against the stop manufacturing order. Some upgrade has been observed, said an MPCB official.
