Police in Mumbai Wednesday lodged a case after family members of a woman allegedly abducted her husband suspecting that he was cheating on her and asked his family to return Rs 2 lakh they had spent on the wedding.

The family members of the woman’s husband Akram Qureshi (24), then approached the local police station where an FIR was registered against five members of the family. By late evening, some of them had been detained by the police.

According to the FIR, Qureshi, a resident of Shivaji Nagar, married Sakina, a Vasai resident, in July 2023.

As per Qureshi’s statement, nearly a month back, his father-in-law took Sakina home back to Vasai.

On Saturday, he said he received a call from one of Sakina’s relatives to meet him in the Sathe Nagar area of Mankhurd. He said that when he reached here, his father-in-law Firoz Ansari along with four other relatives were there in a car.

He alleged that he was pushed in the car and his hands and legs were tied up.

He claimed he was taken to their house in Vasai and was later kept in an adjacent flat where he was beaten up by the relatives.

The accused then called up Qureshi’s family members and asked them to return the Rs 2 lakh they had spent on the wedding if they wanted him alive.

The family then approached the Shivaji Nagar police station where an FIR was registered. The girl’s family allowed Qureshi to go after they heard about the complaint.

A senior officer said that the woman was suspecting that her husband was cheating on her.

Due to this she left home last month and informed her family members who are alleged to have hatched the plan.

An officer said that they have detained some of the persons who have been named accused in the case.
