The Bhandup police are on the lookout for a drummer who allegedly killed his wife at their Bhandup residence Tuesday. The body of Bharati Patil, 30, was “discovered” by family members inside a barrel at the residence Wednesday. The police are questioning the mother and the sister of Kiran Patil, who is currently at large, in connection with the murder.
According to senior inspector of Bhandup police station, Sripad Kale, Kiran has been missing since the incident came to light and has also switched off his mobile phone. He added that the police were interrogating Kiran’s 70-year-old mother as well as sister as they suspected that the family members knew more about the murder than what they claimed.
“So far, during the interrogation we have learned that the family suspected that the deceased was having an extra marital affair. They also felt that she did not look after her husband and didn’t give him food to eat,” the senior inspector said.
Another officer said that the police suspected that the murder was planned. Kiran’s sister had come to their house for Rakshbandhan and was staying over, ever since.
The family had earlier claimed that they had gone over to a relative’s place for a function Tuesday and returned home Wednesday to find Bharati murdered.
An offence under section 302 has been registered with the Bhandup police.
