61-year-old woman dies, others complain of feeling uneasy at BJP event in Nagpur

A woman identified as Manu Tulshiram Rajput, who hailed from Hudkeshwar area of Nagpur and was part of the crowd, fell unconscious and collapsed. A 61-YEAR-OLD woman, who had come to attend a programme organised by the BJP in Nagpur, died on Saturday afternoon soon after she fell unconscious and collapsed. A few others, who were also part of a huge crowd that had gathered for the rally, were injured in the incident.
An officer from the Kotwali police station in Nagpur said the incident took place around 10.30 am at the Suresh Bhatt Sabhagruha in Reshimbagh area, where a function was organised by BJP’s Nagpur city unit.
According to the officer, kitchen appliances and utensils were being distributed to construction workers during the programme. A massive crowd had gathered outside the gates of the sabhagruha.
A woman identified as Manu Tulshiram Rajput, who hailed from Hudkeshwar area of Nagpur and was part of the crowd, fell unconscious and collapsed. She was rushed to a government hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Besides, a few other women also complained of feeling uneasy and were taken to hospital.
The officer said that during the event it was very hot and the crowd was standing under the sun outside the gates. Police are checking if arrangements for water were made for the crowd. An Accidental Death Report (ADR) was filed at the Kotwali police station.
Incidentally, in April last year, 13 people died at the Maharashtra Bhushan event held in Navi Mumbai due to dehydration and heatstroke. An inquiry was ordered into the incident. However, the report was not made public.
