The police said Gadekar attempted suicide seeking action against her husband’s friend who allegedly usurped their land after her husband’s death. Davare is the wife of a police constable from Navi Mumbai, who lost his leg in a surgery. Sangita set out to protest outside Mantralaya demanding action against the doctor who had carried out the surgery, the statement added.

The police said despite belonging to different districts, the women became acquainted through a social worker. “They learnt about each other’s grievances and were advised by the social worker to stage this protest. According to reports, both women arrived at the Mantralaya in the same taxi. We do not know much about the social worker yet,” an officer said.
