Woman climbs atop hoarding in Byculla,threatens to jump

It was high drama near the Khada Parsi memorial in Byculla on Wednesday morning after a 35-year-old woman climbed atop a hoarding and threatened to jump.

It was high drama near the Khada Parsi memorial in Byculla on Wednesday morning after a 35-year-old woman climbed atop a hoarding and threatened to jump. The woman was later rescued by the Fire Brigade and taken to the J J Marg police station. The woman has been identified as Sapna Pereira,a resident of Juhu.

The police said Pereira climbed atop a hoarding near Byculla bridge and refused to come down until her demands were met. “Pereira said she wanted money for her daughter’s eye operation. She claimed she is a widow and her finances were limited,” said an officer,requesting anonymity.

The woman refused to listen to the police who urged her to come down. “We tried our best to coax her into coming down,but she did not budge. Finally,the Fire Brigade was called in and she was rescued,” the officer added.
