Search for a doctor in one’s vicinity is now just a click away. A group of Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) graduates have developed a map-based search application, ‘doctor search healthcare 24/7’.

This app, available in Google Play Store, enables a person to locate the exact location of doctors and their specialties in his or her area.

Download the app or click on “http://www.healthcare24by7.com/#home” and type in your city and click ‘current location’. And up pops a map of the area with a list of doctors, their specialties and how far , in kilometres, they are from the user’s location. The map also navigates the user to go to the clinic or the hospital chosen.

With the tagline, “bringing healthcare services at your doorstep”, the app currently covers 4,275 doctors in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai. The specialties include general physicians, dentists, gynaecologists and paediatricians.

The app is the brainchild of IIT Bombay’s mechanical and computer science graduates Kapil Wanaskar, Rahul Beniwal, Anurag Meena and three more graduates from the institute.

According to the team, around 100 meetings with doctors, healthcare professionals and patients gave birth to this product. This app is the first product from their start up.

“I come from a family of doctors so accessibility to doctors always played on my mind. Moreover, I wasn’t happy with placements and always felt that I should instead be hiring people in the next placement session,” said Wanaskar, who with his team began working on this project since last December.

Launched on December 17, the team says the website and the app has already got around 500 hits, mainly from Mumbai.

Next, the team plans to add 50 more specialties for ear, nose and throat, skin and cancer. “We also will include review and ratings of doctors so users can make a better choice and expand the app’s reach to other cities,” said Wanaskar. Also coming up are locations of pharmacists, diagnostics shops and access to one lakh doctors.
