The state government will soon decide on banning the Hindu Rashtra Sena for its alleged involvement in the recent murder of 26-year-old Pune techie Mohsain Shaikh and the ensuing riots.

“We will examine whether the outfit can be banned. The police are seriously dealing with the matter and have arrested 23 people in the matter so far,” Home minister R R Patil said in the Legislative Council  Saturday after the issue was raised by member Kapil Patil, who said the outfit had unleashed terror in the minds of the minority community.

Hindu Rashtra Sena members went on a rampage on June 2, allegedly killing Shaikh and rioting, after a disparaging post by unknown persons about Shivaji and late Bal Thackeray emerged on a social networking site.
