Western Railway recovers over Rs 100 crore from ticketless travellers

Western Railway (WR) has conducted rigorous ticket checking operations across Mumbai suburban local services, Mail/Express trains, passenger trains, and holiday special services to combat ticketless and irregular travel. From April 2024 to January 2025, WR recovered a total of Rs. 117.54 crore, which includes Rs. 38.10 crore from the Mumbai Suburban section.

Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, revealed that in January alone, WR collected Rs. 13.08 crore detecting 2.24 lakh ticketless or irregular passengers, which also included cases involving unbooked luggage. The month of January also saw the recovery of Rs. 4.13 crore in fines from 98,000 such cases on the Mumbai Suburban network.

In addition, to curb unauthorised travel in AC local trains, WR has carried out frequent surprise ticket checks. These efforts have led to the penalisation of nearly 52,000 passengers from April 2024 to January 2025, generating over Rs. 1.72 crore.
