Corporators across party lines on Wednesday staged a walkout from the standing committee meeting, claiming the BMC administration had failed to give a satisfactory reply on the inadequate water supply. Corporators complained that despite several appeals made in the general body meetings and standing committee meetings, there was a lack of seriousness on the part of the BMC administration in this regard.

Samajwadi Party corporator Raees Shaikh from Govandi said that with rising temperatures, the issue of water shortage had increased in his locality. “Officials from the hydraulic engineering department do not receive calls from us when we complain,” he said. Echoing similar sentiments was Anuradha Pednekar,a Shiv Sena corporator from Kurla (West) — a place known to have chronic water problems said that in the last month with rising temperatures, the area has been facing severe water shortage. “ We have been complaining only to get reassurances, but no action,” she said. When the administration was asked to reply, the additional municipal commissioner Manisha Mhaiskar said that there was enough water till July 15 and there will be no need to impose a water cut.

Corporators were irked by the reply and staged a walkout.
