ART Night Thursdays, the monthly event that has Colaba galleries coming together to encourage more people to consume art, might just lose a little bit of its sheen. After galleries clamoured to get into spaces at Arthur Bunder Road a year ago,it seems like there is a mini exodus now. While The Guild shifted to the 3rd Pasta Lane a month ago,The Indian Express has confirmed that Volte will be shutting its space in Colaba and moving to Worli. The space had been hosting private events for a while now, with William Kentridge being the last exhibition in the gallery. Tushar Jiwarajka, owner of the gallery, says,“We feel that the market is moving to mid-town Mumbai. Earlier most buyers would work at Nariman Point and drop by post work. But with Lower Parel,Worli and BKC becoming big commercial hubs,it would be much simpler if we shifted to Worli. Real estate prices was not a concern.” Jiwarajka also says that it has been a natural evolution for the gallery, which shifts base after five years of its existence.
