On the second day of the proceedings, the mother of the 22-year-old photojournalist, who was allegedly gangraped by five men inside the Shakti Mills premises on August 22,deposed before the Sessions court.
In a testimony recorded over an hour, the victims mother narrated the event before the court. Confirming that the testimony supported the polices case, special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said the witness narrated the chain of events just as she had told the police earlier in her statement.
The victim had called her mother on reaching the railway station. The witness narrated the event the way it unfolded, Nikam said. The victims mother briefly broke down before the court, but composed herself and testified before the court,he said.
In her statement, which is a part of the chargesheet, the victims mother had mentioned that she had called her daughter twice on the evening of August 22 as they had planned to go out for dinner. The first call was made at around 6.40 pm,nearly 40 minutes after the victim and her male colleague had entered the Mills premises on a photo assignment. The prosecutions case is that soon after the victim and her colleague entered the Mills, they were cornered by the accused. While the male colleague was tied to a tree, the victim was dragged to another corner, away from her colleague.
According to the prosecution, the victim was threatened by the men to answer the call and act normally.
The five accused, including a juvenile, have been booked under several sections of the IPC for gangrape, criminal conspiracy, illegal confinement, criminal intimidation and destruction of evidence along with sections of the Information Technology Act,for allegedly showing the victim a porn clip saved on the accuseds phone and forcing her to enact it.
The victims senior colleague, who had assigned the victim and her colleague the task of clicking photographs of dilapidated structures for the magazine, also deposed before the court Tuesday.
