Valuables worth Rs 1 cr stolen from gem store

Police are verifying a complaint lodged by the owner of a gemstone showroom in Ghatkopar (West),who has alleged that his shop was ransacked by unidentified robbers in the early hours on Monday and valuables worth Rs.1 crore were stolen.

Police are verifying a complaint lodged by the owner of a gemstone showroom in Ghatkopar (West),who has alleged that his shop was ransacked by unidentified robbers in the early hours on Monday and valuables worth Rs.1 crore were stolen.

The shop is located close to Ghatkopar railway station and the owner,Ashok Bhandare,resides in Kalyan. According to Bhandare,when the security guard reached the spot,seven goons who had taken cover in the shop caught him by the collar and threw him out.

The incident occurred at around 4.30am. Bhandare was allegedly informed of the incident around 7.30am by the security guard.

Bhandare alleged that the stolen items,which included gemstones,gold rings with embedded gems,silver ornaments and electronic items like computers and printers – valued Rs 1crore.

The police are recording statements of the watchman and the shop owner.
