Reliance Energy consumers can now avail of the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) facility to pay their electricity bills. In a first among electricity providers, the company has made the facility available on the discom’s mobile app and website. Customers having accounts in any bank, which is live on UPI, can avail of this mode of transaction where they have to provide their account number instead of card details.

“Our current e-payment share is 24% of total collection every month. We’re leveraging existing technologies, introducing new digital technologies so that customers can communicate with us, resolve their queries or make bill payments online by clicking a few buttons,” said a Reliance Energy spokesperson.
Reliance Energy has already tied up with gateway websites like PayTM, PayUmoney, Billdesk to ease bill payment. The UPI, a single-window mobile payment system launched by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), is the latest addition.
