A MAGISTRATE court, in a recent order, sentenced an undertrial to six months’ jail for escaping from custody while being taken to hospital from jail.

Moin Mohammed Shamim (41) was jailed in 2017 in a theft case. Lodged at Taloja Central Jail, he was taken to the state-run J J Hospital for check-up of a tumour near his neck on May 25, 2017.

He was accompanied by two constables. At the hospital, a doctor took a sample from his tumour for tests at the pathology department. The attendant at the department was talking to one of the constables that Shamim would need three more tests. The other constable then joined him. It was alleged that Shamim managed to flee around this time. The police searched for him on the premises but could not find him.
