Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray Saturday lashed out at his cousin and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Raj Thackeray.

“Certain people are out to work against the state’s interest and have fielded candidates (for the Lok Sabha polls) for this very purpose,” Uddhav said.

Without naming the MNS leadership, Uddhav said, “They (the MNS) have lost their own identity. Knowing that their own face won’t win them votes, they have decided to wear Narendra Modi’s mask to lure voters.” “They had earlier used Shiv Sena supremo (late) Bal Thackeray’s photographs to connect with people,” he added.

On March 9, Raj, while declaring his first list of candidates of seven candidates for the LS polls, had declared his party’s support for BJP’s prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi.
Of the seven candidates in the first list, six were fielded in constituencies which the Shiv Sena is contesting.

On Saturday, the MNS announced two more LS candidates, both for seats that the Shiv Sena is contesting. For Thane seat, the party has decided to field Shiv Sena’s former youth leader Abhijeet Panse, who joined the MNS on March 9, whereas Suresh Mhatre will be the MNS candidate from Bhiwandi.

Asked for his response over the development, Uddhav said, “I believe in constructive work and do not wish ill for anyone. At this moment, it is important to have a stable government at the Centre and all parties in the (BJP-promoted) grand alliance have joined hands to achieve this. We will meet our goal.”

Meanwhile, late Pramod Mahajan’s daughter Poonam, who will be the BJP candidate from Mumbai North Central against sitting Congress MP Priya Dutt, called on Uddhav at his residence to seek his blessings. “The Thackeray and Mahajan families enjoy a close bond. I am happy she is contesting from the constituency where I reside. My vote would be my blessing to her,” Uddhav said.

Poonam referred to Uddhav as Dada (brother). “His blessings will surely help me win,” she said.
