Two more swine flu deaths in city, toll reaches 17

Of the total H1N1 virus deaths, 35 per cent cases were reported to have hypertension.

A Bhayander-resident and a Nashik-resident became the latest victims of swine flu over the past two days, taking the death toll across Mumbai to 17.

Both were cases of hypertension, indicating the high mortality rate among patients suffering from co-morbid conditions. Of the total H1N1 virus deaths, 35 per cent cases were reported to have hypertension.

The total cases recorded until Thursday stood at 512, of which 83 cases were reported Thursday alone, a trend going against civic official’s expectations that a rise in temperature would result in a dip in cases.
