Two bike-borne men allegedly flung some chemical substances on a 26-year-old woman and fled with her bag containing laptop and other valuables in Kalyan area on Saturday night. The Kolsewadi police, who are on a lookout for the two men, said the complainant is a UPSC aspirant and was going to meet her friend when the incident took place.

According to the police, the woman sustained injuries and was rushed to hospital from where she was discharged after administering first-aid.

The woman alleged that after attending her classes in Andheri, she came to Kalyan to hand over the laptop to her friend.

“While I was walking on the footpath, suddenly two bike-borne men came from behind, threw some chemical substance on me which caused some burning sensation. My dupatta also got torn in the attack,” the victim said.

The two accused then snatched her bag and escaped from the spot, said the 26-year-old.

Officials from Kolsewadi police said a case of robbery was registered at the police station. “We have formed a special team and an inspector-rank officer is overseeing the probe. We have also started scrutinising the CCTV footage and have alerted our human intelligence,” said a senior police officer.
