Train passenger injured in ‘scuffle’ with ticket checker

A PASSENGER on a local train was admitted to Alliance Hospital,Nallasopara,Wednesday after he was injured in a scuffle with a ticket checker at the railway station.

Government railway police (GRP) had registered an offence and was investigating the matter,said senior inspector Pravin Rane,Vasai GRP.

Rane said Hansal Mohammed Sayyed Ansari was caught by ticket checker Sunil Kumar Paswan at Nallasopara station for allegedly travelling without a ticket around 5.30 pm. He was taken to the station master’s office to pay fine.

Ansari alleged that although he was willing to pay the fine,Paswan continued to reprimand him.

Ansari walked out of the room and gathered other passengers. A heated argument reportedly broke out between Ansari and Paswan,police said.

Two services were stopped after a crowd gathered near the station manager’s office.

Ity Pandey,senior divisional commercial manager,Western Railway,denied the ticket checker’s involvement in the incident.

“The passenger refused to pay the fine and stormed out of the room. He gathered a few passengers and falsely accused the ticket checker of harassing him. The passenger himself banged his head against a wall which resulted in the injury. He was taken to the hospital along with police and railway staff. The whole incident was witnessed by our staff,” she claimed.

Sources said railway authorities had filed an FIR against the passenger.
