A traffic constable attached to the Colaba traffic division has been suspended for allegedly disobeying orders from his seniors. According to the police, following several complaints of tourist bus being parked illegally near Regal Cinema in south Mumbai, constable Sachin Sudam Ghughe was instructed to take action against 14 drivers whose buses were parked illegally. But, he allegedly booked only five drivers.
The suspension order, issued Wednesday, said that on October 3, traffic snarls were reported between Regal Junction and Jahangir Art gallery due to double and triple parking by tourist buses. Ghughe was deputed to take cognizance against guilty bus drivers. However, the constable charged only five drivers out of 14 who had parked illegally.
A senior IPS officer said: “…On that day, we got a complaint call at the control room about the illegal parking. So, we deputed the constable to take cognizance against all the drivers, but later we were informed that he didn’t charge everyone. An enquiry was set up against him, following which the order of his suspension was issued.”
DCP, traffic (city), Dipali Masirkar confirmed that the constable was suspended but refused to comment further.
