To ensure smooth and transparent ticket checking, the Central Railway will provide body cameras for Ticket Checkers (TCs) at 24 stations in Mumbai division from next week.

Among these 24 stations are Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Byculla, Dadar, Kurla, Ghatkopar, LTT, Thane, Dombivli, and Kalyan.

Similarly on Harbour line Belapur, Panvel, Wadala, Vashi, Nerul, Koparkhaire are among other stations. In May, the Central Railway had declared that 50 body cameras will be provided to TCs.  However, it was in possession with just one camera and the delivery of cameras was delayed.

An official from the CR office confirmed that they have now received the remaining 49 body cameras.  “In order to carry the body cameras properly, the TCs will be provided with plastic transparent cover holders which can be worn in the neck,” said the official. Moreover, he added, the body camera covers will have a message to the commuters , “you are under camera surveillance”.

This will prevent manhandling and misbehavior with TCs if any.  Moreover, it would also help detect any discrepancy during ticket examination, increase accountability and instill professionalism and protect the reputation of staff.

The body cameras have high resolution quality giving clear night vision, motion detection among other features.

The official added that these 50 cameras will be provided to TCs on these 24 stations rotationally and considering the response, more will be procured.
