NEARLY THREE months after Suraj Parmar, a Thane-based builder committed suicide, the body of another builder was found on the railway tracks between Ambarnath and Badlapur railway stations in the early hours of Sunday. The body has been identified as that of Kalyan resident Amar Bhatia. Bhatia had sent a text message to his uncle, moments before his body was found on the tracks, to inform that he was committing suicide. The Government Railway Police (GRP), which is investigating the case, is still trying to ascertain the reason which led to Bhatia’s death.

A senior GRP official, probing the case, said Bhatia’s wife and his 10-year-old son, who live in Ulhasnagar, had been looking for him since Saturday evening. When he did not return home till late night, the family got worried and called up other relatives who joined the search for him. Eventually, on the basis of GPS position of Bhatia’s mobile phone, the family managed to track him down to a level-crossing between Ambarnath and Badlapur railway stations where his body was lying on the tracks.

The local Kalyan GRP was informed about the incident and an accidental death report registered in the case. Some of the family’s friends and relatives told the police that there was no reason for Bhatia, a director with Mohan Group, to commit suicide and suspected foul play. “He had parked his car near the level-crossing and came on the tracks where he was run over by a train. He even sent a text message to his uncle saying he was committing suicide. We do not suspect any foul play,” a senior official said, adding that the family’s statement as well as Bhatia’s friends would be recorded to find out what was bothering the deceased.

“At present the family members are in a state of shock and can’t give their statement. We will record their statement after few days which should give us some clarity on what led to the incident,” the officer said.

It can be mentioned here that the police probe found a nexus between local politicians and corporators in the Parmar suicide case. However, the police are yet to arrive at a conclusion in the Bhatia suicide case.
