The N M Joshi police arrested three men on Tuesday for allegedly raping a 22-year-old woman in Kandivali. The police said the main accused, a construction supervisor, lured her to an under-construction building in Kandivali on September 20 and then called two of his friends.
“The victim, a labourer who lives at a construction site in Lower Parel, was an acquaintance of the accused, Mohammad Naziruddin (26).They had worked together at several construction sites,” said Ajay Patankar, senior inspector at N M Joshi police station.
On September 20, Naziruddin allegedly told the victim that he wanted to show her a construction site in Kandivali. “He took her to the fifth floor of the building and began to touch her inappropriately. When the victim protested his advances, he threatened to push her off the building and frame her husband for her death,” Patankar said.
The officer added that Naziruddin then raped the woman and called two friends, Kamal Bilal Ali Hasan (23) and Mohammad Raqiul Islam (22), who also are labourers. Naziruddin allegedly threatened the woman with dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident. The crime came to light on Tuesday after she informed her husband, who admitted her to Kasturba Hospital in Parel.
“We received a call from Kasturba Hospital authorities on Tuesday about a medico-legal case. In her statement, the victim named the accused. Naziruddin and Kamal were arrested from Wadi Bunder, while Islam was picked up from his residence in Behrampada, Bandra (east), on Tuesday night,” the police said.
The accused have been charged with rape and criminal intimidation. All three men have been remanded in police custody till October 9.
