A day after Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray launched a blistering attack on the BJP, stating that the Sena had wasted 25 years because of its political alliance with the latter, the Sena and BJP engaged in a war of words over Thackeray’s statement. The BJP claimed that the CM was insulting his father’s legacy as it was Bal Thackeray who was instrumental in striking the alliance with the BJP.

Devendra Fandavis, leader of the opposition, said that the Shiv Sena and BJP alliance decision was taken by the late Bal Thackeray. “All those questioning this decision and expressing regret for 25 years of alliance are insulting the decision of Bal Thackeray, that too on the auspicious occasion of Bal Thackeray’s birth anniversary,” said Fadnavis while addressing the media.

“Shiv Sena’s Hindutva is only on paper. You don’t talk about Hindutva, you have to live it,” said Fadnavis. He further said that Sena’s decision to join hands with the Congress and NCP to form the Maha Vikas Aghadi has led to its sharp decline, as it has been forced into the fourth position in local bodies elections.
Responding to Sena’s charge that BJP was misusing central agencies against political rivals, Fadnavis said, “If you indulge in wrongdoing and money laundering, the ED and CBI will have to investigate…”

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut hit back at the BJP, saying that Thackeray’s speech has hit the BJP on the right points, which has created unease among the BJP. “If there was nothing in Uddhav Thackeray’s speech, then why are you wasting time by holding such a big press conference?”

He added, “The riots that erupted in Mumbai after the demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992 was the biggest battle of Hindutva in this country and hundreds of our Shiv Sainiks fought for the protection of Hindutva…”

Meanwhile, NCP minister Nawab Malik said that “with the help of Delhi”, Devendra Fadnavis tried to end the politics of Shiv Sena, but he has understood what Shiv Sena is and that is why he is making such statements.
