The Vakola police on Tuesday night arrested the third suspect in the murder of 41-year-old Ramchandra Pal, a driver working for the president of a consumer redressal forum of the Shiv Sena. Pal was shot dead in Kalina,  Santacruz (east), last Thursday.

The police had arrested Izhar Khan and his niece Saba on the day of the incident. Khan had flown from Malaysia to get even with his neighbour in Mumbai for allegedly sexually abusing his sister and Saba. They were on the lookout for their accomplice Nasir Khan (22) who had fled the spot after the incident.

According to the Vakola police, Nasir was apprehended from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus when he was alighting a train from Azamgarh. Police said they had received a tip-off that Nasir was going to return to Mumbai as he had learnt that the police had followed him to his native place in Uttar Pradesh.

After the incident, Nasir allegedly fled to Santacruz railway station and went to Malad. From his relative in Malad, Nasir allegedly
took Rs 2,000 and went to Mumbai Central railway station and boarded a train to Azamgarh.

“We had sent a team to Azamgarh. However, Nasir had received   information that police was there, so he did not turn up at his relative’s house and stayed at a friend’s house,” said Vinayak Mulay, senior inspector. Police officers said Nasir kept changing his location for two days and then left for Mumbai. He had assumed that the police were in Azamgarh and he could hide out in Mumbai, said an officer.
