(Representational/ Express Photo by Amit Chakravarty) A 58-year-old professor of Government Polytechnic College has lodged a complaint with Mumbai police after gold ornaments worth over Rs 4 lakh went missing from his apartment in Tardeo. Police said the complainant stays with his family in government quarters.
An investigator said there was suspicion of the involvement of their woman domestic help, but no one has been arrested in the case as yet.
“We are trying to gather evidence,” said a police officer.
As per the complaint lodged by the professor, his wife and daughter-in-law had kept the pouch of gold ornaments weighing about 10 tolas and some silver ornaments in the cupboard of their bedroom.
“It was kept in the cupboard in June 2023, and on October 29 at around 8.30 am, the complainant’s wife discovered that the pouch was missing from their cupboard,” said a police officer.
Among the jewellery that went missing was a mangalsutra and two gold bangles, said a police.
“The complainant’s son and daughter-in-law searched for it over a couple of days. When they could not find it, they lodged a complaint,” said a police officer. A case of theft has been registered.
“We are checking CCTV footage of government quarters around the spot. We are also investigating their domestic help,” said an investigator.
