Back home from Bengaluru during her semester break, a 19-year-old woman was murdered allegedly by a 29-year-old man in her Dombivali residence Tuesday following a rape bid, police said. Police have arrested the accused, identified as Deepak Bhagne, in the case.
According to Dombivali police, the teenager was studying in Bengaluru and had just returned home when Bhagne allegedly tried to force himself on her. “She had informed her mother, who was outside at the time, once she reached their Dombivali house Tuesday,” a police officer said. When her mother reached home around 4 pm she reportedly found the house door open, police said. “She found her daughter’s body in the living room with a charging cord around her neck,” a police officer said.
While police arrested Bhagne for allegedly strangling the woman to death, the officer said, “We are yet to find the motive. The girl had allegedly tried to reach her family members and mother’s friends when Bhagne forced entry into the house. Prima facie it seems that he wanted to sexually abuse the woman. As of now, it is not clear if he raped her or not,” said the officer. “We have booked Bhagne for murder, house break-in and trespassing,” the officer said.
