Ten men were arrested for allegedly attacking drivers of tourist cars and fleeing with the vehicles and valuables in separate cases across the city. The accused in both cases are history-sheeters with several cases of vehicle theft and assault, police said. In the first case, six men, posing as passengers, requested the owner of a Mahindra Scorpio to drive them from Mulund Court to Thane on Sunday, the police said.
“The suspects attacked the driver, grabbed his gold ring and cell phone, threw him out of the car and drove away,” said senior inspector Fulsing Pawar. Police nabbed the six suspects — Shankar Khedekar, Sanjay Gurav, Suresh Dharve, Avinash Sonawane, Pravin Patil and Vikram Pawar.
In the second case, Rizwan Khan, 25, of Pune was arrested Monday for allegedly attacking a 36-year-old man, who drove him and his aides from Pune to Mumbai on February 25, police said.
