Team sent to IIT to verify educational background

The Oshiwara police,probing cheating cases involving an alleged conman who falsely claimed he was a NASA scientist,have sent a team to Kharagpur to verify educational background of the accused Atul Sharma,who had claimed that he was an IIT graduate from there.

The Oshiwara police,probing cheating cases involving an alleged conman who falsely claimed he was a NASA scientist,have sent a team to Kharagpur to verify educational background of the accused Atul Sharma,who had claimed that he was an IIT graduate from there.

Sharma (41),has also been telling cops to send an e-mail to NASA headquarters in Washington DC to cross check his background. “We will not send an e-mail to NASA. However,we will try to contact the Indian Embassy in the US and try to find out whether he had been working for NASA,” an officer said.

Police said,Sharma,who was arrested on Tuesday night,had shown photographs of him with US President Barack Obama and former president George Bush to the women he had allegedly cheated. However,when the police found that the photos were morphed.

“We had sent the photographs for analysis and have found that they are fake,” said Assistant Police Inspector Sanjay More,from Oshiwara police station.

On Wednesday,two more victims who were cheated by Sharma had approached the Oshiwara police to register complaints against him.
