T20 win: Maha CM Shinde announces Rs 11 crore for Team India; dy CM Fadnavis pitches for a bigger stadium

Fadnavis, who holds the Home portfolio, also lauded the Mumbai police for managing the crowd which had gathered at Marine Drive to welcome the Indian team on Thursday night.

“Mumbai police did their job exceedingly well which resulted in peaceful completion of the programme,” he said.

Shinde, in his speech, did not directly address the demand raised by Fadnavis but said that he will extend all possible help for the sport.

“Maharashtra government will extend all possible help to the game and players,” Shinde said announcing the prize money of Rs 11 crore to the Indian team.

State Sports Minister Sanjay Bansode, speaking to mediapersons after the programme, said that a detailed project report for the stadium will be sought.

“Both the CM and the Deputy CMs have spoken about this and there is no issue about delaying it. A DPR for this would be asked. A new stadium can be built in Mumbai or Navi Mumbai,” he said.

Thanking the felicitation and greetings from the crowd, captain Rohit Sharma said that he was overwhelmed at the support he and his team received.

“This is not an individual achievement of mine or any of these players. It is because of the team effort that we managed to win the cup,” he said.
