A 20-year-old domestic help at the Noble House building sucumbbed to his injuries on Tuesday after falling from the terrace. According to the police,Chotu Prajapati,a native of Jaipur, was attempting to commit suicide when he accidentally fell from the terrace of the five-storey building on Monday night. He was taken to a hospital where he died on Tuesday morning. The Khar police have registered a case of accidental death.
Prajapati stayed with Mukund Maheshwar (20),a BMS student of NM College. Prajapati has been staying with the Maheshwar family in Jaipur since childhood and was sent to Mumbai a year ago along with Mukund to take care of him.
On Monday night, after hearing some commotion in the compound,Mukund went out and saw Prajapati hanging from the terrace wall. Residents of the building were asking him to come down. Mukund and other residents told the police that Prajapati was hanging from the terrace when he accidentally fell off.
Police officers investigating the case said that Mukunds aunt, who had come from Jaipur, had got him a box of sweets worth Rs 1,000. Since Mukund was not at home, his aunt left the sweets with Prajapati on Monday afternoon. Assuming that Mukund would not eat the sweets,Prajapati sold them for Rs 400. When Mukund returned home,he received a phone call from his aunt conforming whether he had received the sweets. Prajapati then told Mukund that he had sold the sweets.
In a fit of rage,Mukund yelled at Prajapati and also called up his parents. Mukunds father told Prajapati that they had raised him since childhood and did not expect him to deceive them. However, after a few hours the family forgave Prajapati and told him not to repeat the mistake, an officer said.
