As student organisation has written to Rajesh Tope, minister of higher and technical education, demanding a Marathi version of all colleges and university websites across the state.

Members of Prahaar Vidhyarthi Sanghatana met Tope last week and submitted a list of colleges which have websites with content only in English. They have also written to these colleges.

“We want the government and colleges to consider making information about colleges and their departments available in Marathi. We have no problem with websites in English, but there should be an option of exploring them in Marathi,” said advocate Ajay Tapkeer of Prahaar Vidhyarthi Sanghatana.

The principal of a well-known south Mumbai college, who did not wish to be named, said,“We have received a letter, but do not have adequate staff for maintaining a Marathi website. We are working on creating a Marathi version, but it will take time.”

Deepak Pawar, president of Marathi Abhyas Kendra and assistant professor of civics and politics at Mumbai University said,“Making college and university websites available in Marathi is a long pending demand. As per the state’s e-governance policy, all documents, offline and online information should be provided in the state language and then in English.”
