State clears Rs 6.5 lakh for 26/11 investigators

Nearly seven months after it was announced,the state government has cleared Rs 6.5-lakh award to the 46 cops who probed the 26/11 terror attacks.

Nearly seven months after it was announced,the state government has cleared Rs 6.5-lakh award to the 46 cops who probed the 26/11 terror attacks.

“The Chief Minister announced on August 30,2012,an award to the 46 police officers investigating the 26/11 terror attacks. Accordingly,a commendatory letter and Rs 6.85 lakh are being approved as an exception,” Kailash Bilonikar,under secretary,home department,said in a circular.

The money will be divided among the 46 police officers with seniors such as Rakesh Maria,Deven Bharti and Ashok Durafe getting commendatory letters.

The officers will get between Rs 5,000 and Rs 1 lakh each.

Interestingly,26/11 investigating officer Ramesh Mahale,who resigned from the force recently,will get the biggest amount of Rs 1 lakh.

Crime branch fund will be used for the purpose. “It was due to the efforts of the investigating team that solid evidence was gathered and the guilty terrorist could be given death,” the circular states.

Police had been following up with the state government to ensure the men who investigated the case get awarded at the earliest.
