The state government finally began the process of appointing teachers for 763 vacant posts in 196 government-aided schools. The process was pending for more than six years, after it was first announced in 2017. The state’s school education department has now declared a list of over 5,000 eligible candidates and school managements have been instructed to conduct interviews of candidates.
The teacher recruitment will take place through Pavitra Portal – a designated centralised system for teacher appointments, for which a circular has been issued by the department. The recruitments will be for teachers for classes 6 to 12. The circular instructs schools to conduct interviews from July 18 to August 19. School managements can finalise appointments only after the interview status is uploaded on the portal.
“The process to appoint eachers was stalled due to various issues, including legalities,” explained an official from the school education department. A new circular is now issued to finally begin the process.
A list of 5,535 eligible candidates who have cleared Teachers eligibility Test (TET) and Teachers Aptitude and Intelligence Test (TAIT) has also been issued along with the circular. Candidate recommendations are provided separately for different schools.
According to information provided by the Commissioner of Education Suraj Mandhare, candidates are being made available to these managements in the limit of 1:10 per seat in line with parallel reservation and subject to availability of candidates as per provisions for interview and teaching skills. 30 marks have been alloted for the interview and teaching skills. Final selection will be based on these marks along with subject and reservation recommendations for the posts.
Pandurang Kengar, from Mumbai school principals’ association, welcomed the move. “Aided schools have been waiting for this approval for many years as posts of teachers were finalised in 2017,” he said.
