Karlsson to coach in Mumbai

Swedish Peter Karlsson,a five-times World and European champion,one of the renowned coaches under the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF),will be holding a four-day coaching camp for the city/suburban table tennis players as well as for the coaches at the University Stadium next month. The purpose of the Karlsson’s coaching camp is to impart the latest technique of physical,technical and mental training,to the youngsters and to enhance the knowledge of the game to the coaches. Karlsson,who is currently coaching national champion Soumyajit Ghosh,wants to spread awareness of the game amongst table tennis lovers,coaches,players,parents and the public at large in the city/suburbs. Karlsson has also trained the Indian boys’ team that won the historic first ever and the only medal by any Indian in a World Championships. WIFA to conduct selection trials

The Western India Football Association (WIFA) will be conducting selection trials for the National Football Championship for the Mir Iqbal Hussain tournament at the St Xavier’s Ground in Parel on Tuesday. The coaches will select Maharashtra team for the annual event after the trials. Children born after January 1,1998,are eligible for the trials.

PIFA Colaba triumph

PIFA Colaba defeated Chauhan FC 2-0 to emerge champions in the inaugural edition of the Karnataka Sporting Association (KSA) Open Futsal Tournament for boys’ under-14,at the KSA ground,Cross Maidan,on Sunday. Nippy forward Faizal Shaikh netted both the goals for PIFA in the final. Earlier in the semifinals,Yagnesh Chauhan scored a hat-trick to steer Chauhan FC to a 3-0 win against Eagle Stars,while Aman Gaikwad struck the lone goal as PIFA Colaba overcame Young United 1-0.

Results – semi-finals: Chauhan FC 3 (Yagnesh Chauhan 3) beat Eagle Stars 0; PIFA Colaba 1 (Aman Gaikwad) beat Young United 0. Final: PIFA Colaba 2 (Faizal Shaikh 2) beat Chauhan FC 0; Third place: Young United 3 (Kapil Chavan 2,Anjar Siddiqui) beat Eagle Star 0. Best goalkeeper: Sunil Maurya (PIFA); Best striker: Faizal Shaikh (PIFA),Best Playmaker: Yagnesh Chauhan (Chauhan FC).
