This Friday will mark the celebration of two wonderful causes with the staging of Naseeruddin Shah’s new play, Gadh-ha Aur Gadd-ha. As Avehi Abacus Project, which has been working to strengthen the public education system, turns 25, Shah will present the Hindi play, based on master satirist Krishan Chander’s writings as part of the theatre group’s ‘storytelling on stage’ series.
The play is directed by Naseeruddin Shah as a tribute to Chander. The production consists of selections from the late satirist’s celebrated works — Hindi ka Naya Qaida, Ek Gadhe ki Aatmakatha and his famous short story Gaddha (The Hole). The hour-long show will have Shah, Faisal Rashid, Anirudha Raval, Dhruv Kalra, Saahil Vaid, Rushil Sharma, and Rakesh Om.
Since 1990, the Avehi Abacus project has been working with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) education department towards strengthening the public education system of the most marginalised sections of society. The special event will also highlight the achievements of its programme Sangati — a thought-provoking and interactive enrichment curriculum package comprising a series of six teaching-learning kits with interlinked themes drawn from the sciences and social sciences, appropriate for the age group of 11 to 14 years.
The silver jubilee celebrations will be held at Pracharya BN Vaidya Sabhagruha, King George High School, Dadar, on April 17, 4.30 pm.
