Over a month after a skeleton was found on the Arthur Road jail premises, medical experts have suggested that it could be well over 100 years old. They said the human skull and some parts of the skeleton, which were found while digging a site inside the jail, could be of a man aged around 25 who must have died even before the jail was built.
The skeleton, which was found by construction workers a day before Home Minister RR Patil and Leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse paid a visit to the jail, had been handed over to the forensics laboratory for further tests.
We had sent its parts to the anatomy department of Nair Hospital to ascertain the age and sex of the deceased. We had also asked them to find out as to when the body was buried? In their report, the doctors have said that the skeleton was of a male, aged around 25, a senior officer of NM Joshi Marg police said. The skull has now been handed over to the Mumbai Forensics Scientific Laboratory for further tests.
