A 50-year-old Singapore resident was arrested from Ahmedabad airport by the Mumbai police for his alleged role in duping a South Mumbai-based firm to the tune of Rs 3.5 crore. According to the Azad Maidan police, the accused, along with a Jakarta-based individual, cheated the complainant by taking the payment for bronze and copper and delivered cement instead. A look out circular was issued and he was caught on Tuesday after he landed in Ahmedabad. The incident of cheating took place between February 20, 2019, and June 11, 2019, an officer said, adding, “The 40-year-old businessman had placed an order of bronze and copper through the accused Hem Shah by making a payment of USD 5,02,801, which is about Rs 3.5 crore. However, he got cement instead of bronze and copper due to which a case was registered then.” As Shah and his accomplice Ramendra are residents of Singapore and Indonesia respectively, the authorities issued a look out circular against them. “Shah was caught at Ahmedabad airport by the immigration officials. following which he was handed over to the local police. Subsequently, we took custody of Shah and brought him to Mumbai,” said an officer from Azad Maidan police station.
