Air-Indias Shweta Parte played with a plan to knock out Western Railways top seeded Runa Roy to earn a place in the womens singles final of the Amit Rathi Memorial All Mumbai District Ranking tale tennis tournament, hosted by Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana Club here. It was sweet revenge for Shweta as she was beaten by Runa hands down earlier in the season in the Inter-Office final. She takes on second seeded Janhavi Deshpande-Chemburkar,who made short work of Mrunmayee Mhatre in straight games, for the title.
Without detracting from Shwetas fine win,it was Runa who was responsible for her sorry defeat. Looking confident in the beginning,Runa attacked on both flanks with Shweta failing to control and it looked like a repeat of their earlier meeting. Leading 3-0 and 9-6,in the fourth,Runa was just two points away from entry into the final. But it was not to be. For Shweta got into her rhythm and wisely blocked all that Runa threw at her effectively. Shweta not only took the game but continued to employ the same ploy. As Shweta controlled the rallies,Runa became more and more unsure and committed errors galore to bow out.
