The Shiv Sena (UBT) on Wednesday launched a blistering attack on the Union government over the recent blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of neglecting national security while focusing on election campaigns.
In a sharply worded editorial titled “Delhi Duhli… Grih Mantri Ki Vifalta” (“Delhi Shaken… Failure of the Home Minister”) published in the party mouthpiece Saamana, the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction said the explosion at a site where the Prime Minister annually addresses the nation on Independence Day exposes a “complete collapse” of the country’s intelligence and security apparatus.
“The national capital has been rocked by a bomb blast. When Delhi was trembling, the Prime Minister, Home Minister and the entire cabinet were busy with the Bihar election campaign. The Prime Minister even went to Bhutan,” the editorial said. “People are being killed like insects on the streets of Delhi while the government remains engrossed in politics.”
The Sena (UBT) alleged that the government has turned counter-terrorism into a political tool, claiming intelligence and enforcement agencies are being “used like bulls against political opponents” instead of tracking terrorists. It accused the Home Ministry of failing to prevent multiple attacks, citing the killings of 26 tourists in Pahalgam and the Red Fort explosion as examples of “a completely paralysed intelligence network.”
The editorial questioned the Centre’s past rhetoric on zero tolerance for terrorism, recalling that after previous attacks, the government had declared that any future terror act would be treated as “an act of war” against India. “If that is true,” Saamana asked, “will the Modi government treat Monday’s blast at the Red Fort as a war against India?”
Referring to the casualties, the paper said, “Twelve people have been killed and 25 injured, yet the government is busy with election campaigns. The Prime Minister expressed condolences, the Home Minister reviewed the situation — but saving innocent lives was their responsibility.”
Targeting Amit Shah personally, the editorial stated, “Those who see themselves as Sardar Patel have proved to be the weakest and most ineffective Home Minister ever. Explosions occur under his nose while he sits draped in a multicoloured shawl holding meetings.” It added that if Shah resigns, “it will be a favour to 140 crore Indians; otherwise, Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru will be seen drenched in blood.”
Calling upon BJP workers, the Sena (UBT) said, “if you are true devotees of Bharat Mata, demand Amit Shah’s resignation, that will be true service to the nation.”
The editorial concluded that the Modi -Shah government has “failed to eliminate terrorism and prioritise national security,” warning that continued neglect could endanger major Indian cities.
